Hi Mark

I certainly haven't lost interest in Smalltalk or Seaside - I still haven't found anything better.

I guess I lost time to blog. I earn my way in a fairly high pressure (Java :-( ) Solutions Architect role that has sucked away time. I have also been rebuilding the family home (converting from a bungalow to a house) here in the UK. Both projects are nearing completion so hopefully I'll get more time in the not too distant.

Regards
Alan

Dear author,

This site doesn't seem to have much information about who you are. Anyway, I am still learning about Smalltalk and Seaside. I have found these (now somewhat old) posts on Smalltalk and Seaside useful and inspiring.

My question is: what happened? The blog seems to "just end" after a short career. I would be interested to know whether you lost interest in Smalltalk, or just stopped writing about it? If you did lose interest, what was it that you found you didn't like.

I'd love to hear your current thoughts on this subject matter.

Thanks,
Mark Dittmer

PS: Can you show us how to perform these Ajax actions in jQuery rather than Scriptaculus? I think jQuery is a more appealing Ajax library anyway.

Thanks!

Hi objectcentric,

I tried removing that extra toggleAppear as well. It still doesn't display Hide Detail'.

How can I tell which version of Seaside is loaded in the image? The image is Damien Cassou's, which came pre-loaded.

Thanks! (This was a great tutorial by the way, I really enjoyed it. I hope you write some more)

Hi Hooscow

Try removing the extra <code>: toggleAppear</code>

from the line

<code>onAfterFinish: (html element id: contact identifier , ’show’)"; toggleAppear");</code>

I haven't tried this in seaside 2.8 but I believe it should work.

This is the only part of the tutorial that I cannot seem to get working correctly. When I click on the 'Show Detail' legend, the contact view explodes open, but legend still reads 'Show Detail' rather than 'Hide Detail'. Clicking it again collapses the contact view, so that part works. the only that doesn't get updated is the label; it always reads 'Show Detail'.

I've copied down the entire method as far as I can tell. I'm using Damien Cassou's Web image with Squeak 3.10.2

renderContentOn: html
	html anchor
		id: (contact identifier , 'show');
		style: 'margin-left:40px';

			onBeforeStart: (html element id: contact identifier , 'show');
			onAfterFinish: (html element id: contact identifier , 'hide'));
		with: 'Show Detail'.

		with: 'Hide Details'.

I just tried this, and found that the fileUpload callback never gets called in:

    html fileUpload callback: [:file | self attachPhotograph: file]

I set a breakpoint (self halt) in attachPhotograph and found that the method is never called.

So,...no photo for me.
